Darjeeling Sungma Summer (#22)

Description

Black tea from the famous Darjeeling region of India. Darjeeling tea is treasured for its rich golden liquor and distinctive muscatel (a type of grape) flavor. This tea scores high on both counts. Bright and aromatic, floral muscat grape aroma, with warm spice notes and also sugary squash. Plush, tangy mouthfeel with a sweet finish and balanced astringency. This excellent summer harvest tea comes from the highly regarded Sungma Estate.

Story

Darjeeling is a town situated along the slopes of the beautiful, towering Himalayas. The town, and the tea plantations that stretch around it, are often enveloped in mist. This unique climate, along with the region's loamy soil, help produce one of the most unique and distinctive teas in the world. These altitudes place significant strain on the bushes, so they grow more slowly and have more time to develop flavor. The leaves are also more fragile, so they oxidize and dry up at different rates during production. That's why Darjeeling tea always 'looks like Fall' - brown, gold, green. No one else in the world has tea that tastes quite like authentic Darjeeling.

"Sampled this because it is the base used in Casablanca Twist, and I wondered if it could be used as a base for spearmint as well. This is a very mild black tea that does have a bit of sweetness. I think I'll be buying more, since Casablanca is a favorite, and want a spearmint twin :)"

"I've tried a number of black teas and I haven't found anything about this tea that can be distinguished from the rest. I can say that it's good either straight or with milk and honey."

"I originally tried this tea in the Raja Sampler. This was so good that I ordered 3oz. bag with my order. One of my very favorites of all the black teas."

"A fairly subtle but solid black tea. It seems a tad bitter when I let it steep for five minutes but otherwise tastes smooth."

"Pretty good black tea. I like it more than things like Irish or English breakfast teas."
