Description

Black tea from the Fujian province of China. Golden Monkey tea is hand-processed each spring with careful plucking of only one leaf and one bud. The name comes from its unique appearance: the leaves resemble monkey paws. Sweet and very 'nosy': savory roasted apples, cocoa and spice notes that linger as you sip. Rich, coating texture and very smooth, soft mouthfeel. Delicate, almost indistinguishable astringency.

Story

One of the classic Panyang congou teas, Golden Monkey comes from Fujian province, China. Fujian teas account for one-fifth of China's total tea output, and the consistently high quality keeps them in demand. A coastal province (Taiwan lies just to the east, across the Taiwan Strait), Fujian benefits from an excellent climate, combining mild temperatures, abundant rainfall and very mountainous terrain. The misty mountain scenery is a mainstay of traditional Chinese art. In fact, the traditional description of Fujian is '8 parts mountain, 1 part water and 1 part farmland.' Fujian has a long history of cultivating tea: over 1,000 years.

"Delicious black tea. It is smooth and clean with an almost sweet aftertaste that lingers in the mouth. It is on the lighter side and not at all bitter like some black teas. "

"Well balanced with a lean finish. Great tea for those who prefer a non-flavored straight cup of tea."

"I am a life long coffee fanatic, trying tea as a healthy alternative. The professional at the store in Naperville offered to have me test 3 samples. Of the 3, I chose the Golden Monkey. After my first 8 cups, I can tell you I will buy it again. It seems to have enough caffine to satisfy me without getting 'Wired.' Love it!"

"I have had difficulty getting into more 'mature' teas, tending to stick with those that are flavored or spiced, but I loved this tea. It has what I'd describe as an 'earthy' taste (not literally, but in mood). It is complex and makes me feel grounded. I'd definitely buy again."

"Has wonderful overtones of golden raisin -- sweet and fruity -- that come out in the first steep or if you add a few fresh leaves to the second. Light notes of tobacco and butterscotch, I'd say. Very nice as a lighter alternative to my usual keemun concerto and yunaan supreme..."
