Description

Black tea from the Anhui province of China. Perhaps the most famous of Chinese varieties, prized for its rich, toasty flavor, mineral flinty notes and smoky, sometimes incense aroma. Our Keemun Rhapsody is a complex showing of an excellent quality Keemun. Toasty, biscuity aroma with a browned apple sweetness. Earthy fruit flavor, notes of aromatic lychee fruit. Lingering perfumy smokiness long after the cup is finished.

Story

Qimen is a county inside China's Anhui province, and Keemun tea is a variant of the name 'Qimen.' Until about a century ago, this region produced only green tea, which was unremarkable at best. However, once the local farmers switched to the manufacture of black tea, the results were a much better fit. Keemun teas come in a wide range of quality, some quite pedestrian, some simply sublime. The finer grades of this tea are known as Keemun Mao Feng and Keemun Hao Ya. Both are produced in very small quantities, making them pricey, but often well worth it.

"This is a very clean cut tea. Earthy and dry. The taste doesn't linger, but just vanishes like steam out of the cup."

"Keemun is one of my top two or three varieties of tea, and this one is a primary example of why. Chocolate tones are the dominant agent (though not overpoweringly so), with a bit of smokiness that interacts with the chocolate making for great richness and depth. So good!"

"I was hoping this tea was as good as keemun encore which remains one of my favorite teas. Unfortunately, it is not. "

"When I opened the pouch, the scent immediately made me think of chips 'n' salsa. I thought that was weird, so I brewed some up and tried it. The taste was more subtle and subdued than the keemun concerto, which I think I prefer compared to this one, but it was still good. I still got a bit of that tortilla chip flavor, or perhaps a bit of a roasted corn taste. Overall, it wasn't quite what I was expecting, but it was still an enjoyable cup."

"Not too bad. I don't like the meaty-ness of it though."
