There are two types of this tangy fruit available: a bright yellow variety and purple. Native to Brazil, passionfruits are grown in many places, including South America, Hawaii, Indonesia and New Zealand. It's one of the most important fruits in Colombia, especially for juices and desserts. The name 'passionfruit' came from the diaries of early Spanish missionaries, who thought the flower and fruit bore significant religious connections.
