Artichoke Green

Description

Have we gone too far? Perhaps, but considering the culinary appeal of savory and sweet artichoke we thought it married particularly well with a nice green base tea. Complex and completely different, this tea will please a sophisticated palate looking for something unusual.

Story

The origin of artichokes is unknown, though they are said to have come from the Maghreb (North Africa), where they are still found growing in the wild. Wise grandmothers in the Da Lat region of Vietnam make a traditional herbal tea simply by boiling the leaves of artichoke. This might sound like it would produce a bitter, stewed brew, but actually the flavor is smooth, delicately sweet and mild. Artichoke is also the main flavor in the Italian liqueur, Cynar.

"This doesn't taste like artichokes to me, but it's a tasty green."

"I'm not sure what artichoke tastes like. Taste is a bit sweet and dry. It's certainly unique. Smell is also a bit sweet. I wouldn't even have thought of peaches if others haven't mentioned it, but it does faintly remind me them. I probably won't reorder. For a sweet green, I liked this and anhui emerald seed."
