Description

Green tea from Japan famed for its unique shading process. Gyokuro, meaning 'pearl dew,' is among the finest of Japanese teas. Our 'Moonlight Gyokuro' is made solely from the prized tender buds gathered in the early spring flush. Three weeks prior to plucking, tea bushes are shaded from the sun. The fruits of this hard work are evident in each cup. The result is a gentle tea with an intoxicating fragrance and truly sublime taste.

Story

Gyokuro, which means 'jade dew', is one of Japan's most renowned and expensive teas. In the Japanese tea tradition, the texture of the tea itself is extremely important. At the end of the tea making process, the tea master will carefully blend in tiny, broken up 'tea dust' to give the finished cup more body and richness. You can actually see these particles when you scoop out your tea. You also see them in your cup - many fine Japanese greens have a lovely, slightly cloudy appearance. This contributes to the 'umami' of the tea.

"The best green tea I have ever tasted. It has no bitterness or grassy taste if brewed at 158 degrees for 1 1/2 minutes."

"A traditional standby. This is not exceptional, but it is great to have for a refreshing drink."

"I've never been a fan of Japanese teas, and this one is extremely Japanese. Grassy and dusty aren't for me."

"I was looking forward to gyokuro because the description said it was a buttery, non-grassy tea. However, I felt like it was a little more earthy than I had hoped. Perhaps I brewed it incorrectly, but it was not my favorite. Probably won't order again."

"Every cupboard needs a classic green tea, and this is one of mine! As with any green tea, be careful not to steep it too long"

"You get what you pay for with this green tea. It is worth every penny. It has a wonderful flavor to it, not too earthy like most green teas, it is very smooth and has a lot of flavor. A little bit goes a long way. Don't steep too long, it gets bitter quick. 2 minutes is perfect for one cup. "
