Description

A wonderful introduction to the fun discovery of oolong teas. Each sample makes about 8-10 cups of tea. This set includes (though subject to change without notification):

formosa oolong (#8) - A darker oolong tea from Taiwan, formerly known as Formosa (which means 'Beautiful'). Deep raisiny and ripe fruit aroma, autumn 'leafy' note. Lingering flavor and smooth, refreshingly fruity astringency. A lovely introduction to Taiwanese tea.
formosa bai hao (#40) - This Taiwan tea, also called Fancy Formosa Silver Tip or Oriental Beauty, is one of the world's most prized oolongs. More heavily oxidized, yielding luxurious floral, peach-pit fragrance. Incredibly sweet and lush, delicate warm spicy undertone.
ooooh darjeeling - Very rare oolong from Singbulli Estate, Darjeeling, India. Muscat grape and apricot pit aroma (also the mark of fine Darjeeling black teas). Dried fruit flavor, lingering floral notes. A lesson in 'terrior': the place where the tea is grown.
wuyi ensemble - Oolong from the WuYi Mountains in Fujian, China. Savory aroma, roasted vegetables. Faint pit-fruit notes. Honey-floral flavor and nutty, with white sesame, sweetened burdock root (fans of Japanese sweets, anyone?) or barley. Satisfying and hearty.

"So good I had to share. I am no stranger to oolong but my classmates were and so this helped them experience the wonderful flavors it has to offer and I was happy with my tea all the way. Very good arrangement of flavors. "

"This was an interesting introduction to oolong tea. The Ooooh Darjeeling stood out as the most pleasant drinking of the group. It had a slightly smokey aftertaste that finished sweet, with a flowery taste. There were even hints of strawberry, or perhaps pear. The most interesting of the group was the Wu Yi Ensemble. It had a distinct taste of roasted seeds or nuts (perhaps sunflower). I was surprised how much I enjoyed drinking it. The Formosa Oolong was noticeably smokey with a distinct taste of warm hay. It finished with some citric astringency. The Formosa Bai Hao had a similar smokey taste with perhaps the strongest astringent aftertaste of the group (we thought perhaps some element of grapefruit). Overall, a lot of fun to drink. "

"This sampler was my introduction to oolong teas and it did not disappoint. There were subtle differences in potency and flavor, but they all had a distinct smokey herbal taste that kept me coming back for more."
