Description

Rooibos, colloquially known as Red Tea, is an herbal plant that grows in South Africa. Rooibos is a flavorful alternative to tea for those seeking to minimize caffeine intake. Our "Rooibos Almond" is a top-grade organic version, flavored with pieces of almond.

Story

Almonds are mentioned as far back in history as the Bible. They were a prized ingredient in breads served to Egypt's pharaohs. Their exact ancestry is unknown, but almonds are thought to have originated in China and Central Asia. Explorers ate almonds while traveling the Silk Road between Asia and the Mediterranean. In the 18th Century, aided by the Franciscan monks, the almond tree made a leap to California, where it found a hospitable home. A large almond industry is now based in the Sacramento area.

"I'm not always a huge fan of rooibos, but I do really love this tea - it's very sweet (which I usually don't like, but this is a balanced sweetness) and I like to drink it as a dessert tea."

"Not my favorite rooibos and the almond flavor doesn't add much to the taste."

"When I tried plain ol' rooibos, I never thought it smelled or tasted like cough syrup, as many reviews said it did. The rooibos almond, however, did give me that sense of Robitussin stink when I first opened it up. When brewed, it no longer smelled like that, thankfully. The taste is all right, though a bit lacking in almond flavor. To me, it tasted more like basic rooibos than anything with almond. It loses points in my book for that, but it's not bad by any means."
