The Mambo is a form of ballroom dance originating from Cuba in the 1940s. Similar to Salsa in style and timing, it has two forms, one based on the original from Cuba, and one based on the New York style that developed once the dance hit the states, including in the Palladium dance hall where the world’s greatest mambo dancer, Pedro Aguilar, performed. Nicknamed “Cuban Pete” after the famous song of the same name by Desi Arnaz (Ricky Ricardo from I Love Lucy), Aguilar also performed before England’s Queen and Presidents Eisenhower and Johnson.
