Oranges are a popular hybrid of pomelos and mandarins. They come in many varieties, including sweet oranges, blood oranges, and bitter oranges, with multiple varieties within each group. They are originally from Asia, though they are now grown worldwide. Culinarily speaking, nearly every part of the orange can be used, including the zest from their peels, the peels themselves, and of course the sweet, pulpy insides we know and love. The blossoms of the orange tree are equally versatile, and are popular in perfumes, teas, baked goods, and wedding bouquets. In this tea, we use the peels.
