“Eat a pomegranate and visit a bath; your youth will haste back,” says an Ancient Egyptian proverb. One of the world's most ancient fruits, (it is also mentioned frequently in the Old Testament) the pomegranate probably originated in Persia, traveled by traders to the Mediterranean and Arabia, Afghanistan, and China, where it was called the “Chinese apple". The word pomegranate derives from the Latin, pomum granatum, or apple of many grains or seeds. The abundant number of seeds, some say hundreds, are the edible part of the fruit inside its hard shell. They’re a vibrant red and have a sweet-tart flavor.
