Description

Oolong tea from Taiwan. Formosa, meaning 'beautiful' was what the Dutch explorers called this island. The oolong tea grown here continues to be called as such. The intense pungency and exquisite bouquet of Formosa Oolong tea is regarded to be the finest in the world. However, only the finest of Formosa teas warrant the label of 'fancy' grade. This is such tea. Our 'Oolong Symphony no. 40' has dark, silver-tipped leaves and produces a mesmerizing cup of delicate peachy notes and warm, soothing flavor. Well deserving its nickname as the true champagne of teas.

Story

Formosa, meaning 'beautiful island', is what Dutch traders called Taiwan. The teas grown here, mainly north of Taipei, continue to be called as such. Tea can be harvested up to six times a year here, although the high mountain teas may be only twice a year. Oolong tea had been a very important export for the island until the 1980's, when tea growers turned their focus to native oolong enthusiasts. Today, oolong tea is mainly produced for tea lovers in Taiwan, and the rarest, most prized lots are extremely difficult to find in the U.S. Tea culture is so alive and well in Taiwan, annual competitions are held amongst tea growing districts to reward the most outstanding oolongs each year. Gold medal winning oolongs are some of the most expensive in the world.

"I really didn't enjoy this tea. However, it may not be the tea's fault. I think I just prefer black or jasmine teas."

"This tea is beautiful, sweet a little and in a word lush, a delight. Has peachy and spice undertones and is a delight to drink. I can see why it is called a five color tea. It is one of a few very good oolong tea's I have tried. "

"This is really good! I had tried the Oolong Dejarling and loved it, so I wanted to try other Oolongs. I'm going to have to order them at the same time so I can compare and decide which is my favorite. One of these two will be my standard everyday tea."

"A wonderful oolong example, possessing a slightly fruity flavour followed by delicate floral notes."

"Good for what it is, but there are better alternatives in the same category."

"The taste lingers on the palate for quite a while, a very nice fruit liquer. However, you must take care to brew it properly. It took several tries before I got something that tasted as had been described."
